GENERAL STATEMENT/BIOGRAPHY
Carolynn Desch received her MFA in Metalsmithing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1994. She is a studio artist who has lived and worked in Chicago since 1998. She has exhibited her work in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Texas, Maine and many venues in Chicago. She has participated in international group exhibitions in Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Hamburg, Germany; Turku, Finland; Reykjavik, Iceland; Faeroe Islands. Her awards include Illinois Art Council Fellowship Award, 2000 and Craft National 30, cash award, 1996. She has curated several exhibition including “Kaiwu-Enlightening Materials”, contemporary metalwork from Taiwan, “Bodysmiths: The Body and Culture”. Many of her works are held in private collections. She has lectured and taught a number of seminars about metalsmithing and related subjects at the Art Institute of Chicago, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Cardinal Stritch University, New Mexico State University, University of Texas-El Paso.
